Armed robbers stabbed a member of staff during a raid at a convenience shop.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident at the Co-Op on Brunswick Street in Dewsbury on Monday evening.

Two males entered the store at about 7.40pm armed with knives.

They stabbed the man in the leg before taking alcohol, cigarettes and cash.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Kirklees District CID, said: “I am certain someone locally will have seen something that can help bring these offenders to justice.

“This was clearly a frightening incident for the staff in the store yesterday evening, where the suspects have used an unnecessary level of violence. It was still light, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to come forward.

“We are presently reviewing the CCTV from the scene. Enquiries are ongoing,”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
