Shadwell Main Street closed by police for medical emergency

Police have cordoned off a road in north Leeds after an elderly man collapsed in the street.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Main Street in Shadwell by the ambulance service shortly after 10.30am this morning (Wednesday).

Officers at the scene told the Yorkshire Evening Post it was a medical emergency.

The man has been taken to hospital.

Main Street remains taped off while police conduct their investigations.

Buses in the area are having to terminate and commence new journeys at Slaid Hill, First Bus said.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 10:35am today (24/6) police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending a report of an elderly male who had collapsed in Main Street, Shadwell.

"He was taken to hospital for treatment.

"A scene has been put in place while the circumstances are established."
