Robbers threatened staff at a McDonald’s restaurant in Leeds with garden tools before escaping with cash.

Shortly after 5am today (Monday) two males entered the branch in Low Road, Hunslet, and brandished the weapons.

They forced a member of staff into an office and demanded he open the safe. They then stole a large amount of cash, most of it in coins. They also took money from a till before running off towards Joseph Street.

Officers searched the area, supported by the police helicopter and a dog unit, but were unable to find the suspects.

One of the men was white and thin and was wearing a grey tracksuit with a dark grey stripe down the arms and a logo over the left breast.

The other was white and wore black clothing with white stripes on the sleeve.

Detective Inspector John Dexter, of Leeds district CID, said: “The staff involved in this incident have been left understandably shaken by the ordeal and we would like to hear urgently from anyone who recognises the suspects from the images or who saw them in the area.”

Anyone with information is asked contact CID at Elland Road police station via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
