Detectives who are looking for a man who robbed a woman as she sat in her car outside a supermarket have released an e-fit image of the suspect.

The 68-year-old victim was about to drive off after a shopping trip to Morrisons, in Windsor Court, Morley, when the man approached the locked passenger-side door and asked her the time.

Seconds later he returned and smashed the window and grabbed the victim’s handbag. She struggled to keep hold of the bag but the man pulled it from her and ran off.

He was seen to get into a small dark car and was driven away.

Detective Constable Stewart Greenwood, of Leeds District CID, said: “The victim was left extremely shocked and distressed by the incident and I would appeal for anyone who recognises the man shown in the image or who saw a man of similar description in the area to contact us immediately.”

The incident happened at about 11.30am on Friday, May 30.

Police released the e-fit image after exhausting other lines of enquiry.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con Greenwood at Elland Road police station via 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
