THE word ‘pop-up’ often gets a mixed reaction.

Some find it frustrating that pop-ups, which offer something different and quirky, are merely temporary.

Others see it as a decent stepping stone to potentially creating something more permanent.

Well, hold onto your hats because Leeds is now getting a permanent pop-up bar.

Confused? Bear with us.

Hedonist Drinks – the talented team behind the Rum Shack, which opened for a few months at Cross Belgrave Street (more here) – is developing an interesting concept at the old Wok On site on Lower Briggate.

The venue will play host to different pop-ups, which will change on a three-month basis.

And they’ve already had interest from bars in Holland and the USA.

Speaking to City Buzz, Bruce Lerman, from Hedonist Drinks, said: “It will be a revolving pop-up. Initially it will be a whiskey bar for the winter.

“Then we’ll host other pop-ups, and it will be heavily food led too. We have a really good chef, and hope to be open throughout the day until late.”

The Hedonist Drinks team is made up of three Leeds bartenders – Bruce Lerman from Epernay, Dan Crowther from Sandinista and Tom Finnon from Smokestack. Together the trio has 30 years of experience in the industry, so we’re in safe hands.

The venue is due to open in mid-November and they’ve signed a lease for 10 years, so for now, the pop-up concept venue is here to stay.

With Mexican cantina and rum bar Revolucion de Cuba opening nearby soon (more info here), this area is going from strength to strength.
