Police have warned Yorkshire residents about bogus workmen after an 89-year-old man was the victim of a sneak-in burglary.

The victim, who has restricted mobility and hearing difficulties, lives alone in Castleford.

Two suspects persuaded him to have his gutters cleaned and maintained before asking for money for additional supplies.

This was handed over and the victim continued his lunch.

On returning into his kitchen he noticed that the door was open, the males had disappeared and all his money from his wallet was missing.

It is believed that the two men attended in a small white or silver van with ladders on the top.

West Yorkshire Police said: "We would like to remind all residents to remain vigilant & follow the advice on the attached leaflet.

"If you have relatives who are not on social media, please pass these crime prevention tips onto them."
