Police warn Leeds residents after 'cat flap burglar' targets homes in Kirkstall

Police have issued a warning to residents in Leeds after a spate of 'cat flap' burglaries.

Leeds West PSCO Preston said a burglar had been targeting homes in Kirkstall, unscrewing cat flaps and reaching in to grab anything valuable nearby.

She urged residents not to leave keys in the door or valuable items within reach of a cat flap or letterbox.

PSCO Preston tweeted this morning: "It appears we have a 'cat flap' burglar working in the area.

"Someone is unscrewing cat flaps and reaching in using a tool or their arms to unlock doors and grab anything valuable near the door.

"Please make sure you move any keys/valuables away from cat flaps and letterboxes.

"Do not leave keys in the door and if you have sash jammers then please use them.
