Police want to find victim of racist abuse on train from Leeds

Police are looking for a man who suffered a tirade of racial abuse from fellow passengers on a train out of Leeds.

The incident, which happened shortly after 10pm last Thursday on the service to Huddersfield, was reported by a witness.

PC Colin Steele, of British Transport Police, said: “A passenger reported seeing two women on the train racially abusing a black man. The witness said the women shouted racist comments and verbally abused the man for over fifteen minutes throughout the journey.

“A man on board the service challenged the two women who then became aggressive and abusive towards him.”

Officers are reviewing CCTV to identify the victim and the two women.

PC Steele added: “Offensive racial abusive of this kind is totally unacceptable and just will not be tolerated. This must have been an extremely unpleasant and upsetting experience for the victim, and we would really like to hear from him to check he is fine and offer him our support.”
