Police use Taser on wanted man who threatened self-harm in Leeds city centre incident

A wanted man was arrested in Leeds city centre after being tasered by police yesterday (Monday).

Officers on patrol spotted the man, who was wanted on recall to prison, shortly before 6.30pm in the Merrion Street area.

When he was approached by the officers, he climbed onto a wall and threatened to hurt himself.

A cordon was put in place while police continued to engage with the man.

Yorkshire Amublance Service also attended the scene.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Due to increasing concerns for his welfare, Taser was deployed shortly after 8pm and the man was detained unharmed and taken into custody."
