Police stop multiple drivers in North Leeds road death prevention operation

West Yorkshire Police officers have stopped a number of drivers in North Leeds in an operation to prevent road deaths and serious injuries.

On December 27, a total of 24 drivers were stopped and spoken to across Adel, Bramhope, Cookridge and Headingley.

Specialist officers from West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit were working along side the Leeds North West team on an operation which targets the 'Fatal 4'.

These are the four main causes of road deaths and serious injury collisions which include speeding, mobile phone use, drink and drug use and not wearing a seatbelt.

On Sunday, 20 drivers were stopped and spoken to for speeding, one for having no insurance, two for having an expired MOT and one for driving through a red light.

A post on the West Yorkshire Police Leeds North West Facebook page said: "On Sunday (27/12) specialist officers from West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit were working alongside Leeds North West NPT on Operation SPARC.

"Operation SPARC targets the 'Fatal 4' which is the name for the 4 main causes of road deaths & serious injury collisions.

"Areas targeted on this deployment were: Adel, Bramhope, Cookridge & Headingley.

"A total of 24 drivers were stopped and spoken to for various reasons including: Speeding (20) No Insurance (1) Expired MOT (2) and Driving through a red light (1). Any offences were dealt with appropriately.

"This work was completed in addition to the pro-active traffic work that we do daily in the North West area, to keep the roads safe for all who use them."
