Police seized a huge quantity of cannabis after pulling over and arresting a driver on the A1 in Leeds.

Traffic Constable David Minto said a BMW failed to cooperate with a request by his colleague to move off the A1 onto the hard shoulder.

Instead, the driver ran from the vehicle and onto the playing fields at Grange Park, Boston Spa.

The driver was found lying on a bank adjacent to the River Wharfe, TC Minto said.

A huge amount of cannabis was located in the car and the driver arrested for possession with intent to supply.

A search was issued at the driver's address and more drugs were found, police said.

'Thousands of pounds' of drugs were taken off the street in the sting, TC Minto said.

In a series of tweets, the traffic constable said: "This vehicle failed to cooperate with a request from my colleague TC Storey to leave the A1(M) The driver pulled to the hard shoulder and ran from the vehicle onto the playing fields near to #GrangePark #BostonSpa A search was commenced and assisted.
