Police respond to claims '200 people' seen inside Bradford pub after safety callout

Police have has responded to claims that a pub in Yorkshire was "shut down" after social media users claimed hundreds of people were inside.

A photograph of officers at a pub in Bradford has been shared widely online, with posts on social media claiming that '200 people' were in a pub in Five Lane Ends.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that they were called to The Lane Ends pub, on Norman Lane in the Five Lane Ends area on Saturday, July 4.

A WYP spokesman confirmed that they were called to the pub due to a concern for safety.

The spokesman said this was not linked to overcrowding.

He confirmed that a group were dispersed and the matter was referred to licensing at Bradford Council.

The statement said: "Police responded following a concern for safety report that was not linked to overcrowding.

"A group were dispersed and the matter reffered to licensing."

Pubs across the region were allowed to reopen on Saturday, July 4 after three months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
