The body of a woman has been pulled from the canal in Mirfield today.

Police were called to Station Road at around 9am following reports of a body in the Calder and Hebble Navigation near the Lidl carpark.

Officers recovered the body of a woman from the water.

A spokesman said: “Enquiries are at an early stage but there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death. Enquiries remain ongoing.”

Leeds teacher Ann Maguire was stabbed to death by pupil Will Cornick.
