Officers set up cameras on Selby Road and the Ring Road at Colton on Friday morning.

It was part of a National Police Chiefs Council operation to make motorists aware of the fatal consequences of speeding.

One driver was caught at a speed of 58mph.

In a Facebook post, the Leeds East Neighborhood Policing Team said: "This morning officers conducted speed checks on Selby Road and the Ring Road at Colton as part of National Police Chiefs Council Speeding Enforcement Operation.

"The objective of this is to make motorists aware of the speeding aspect of the Fatal 4.

"In a one hour time period, 44 motorists were caught exceeding the limit at speeds of up to 58 mph in a 40 mph zone.

"All offenders will receive a letter of advice from the police in the post."
