Police arrest youths for stealing motorbikes in crackdown on Leeds estates

Police have arrested two youths for stealing motorbikes as part of a crackdown on bike crime in a Leeds suburb.

Residents in Temple Newsam and Halton Moor reported problems with nuisance off-road bikes in the area.

On Saturday, police bike teams went to the area to target youths and help crack down on the issue.

It resulted in two youths being arrested on suspicion of stealing two motorbikes and two more have been identified and are about to be arrested, police said.

The youths also breached orders from Leeds Council.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Acting upon recent calls regarding nuisance off road bikes around the Temple Newsam & Halton Moor area, on Saturday the 22nd of February Off Road Officers and local NPT Officers have conducted an operation targeting these youths.

"We are pleased to report that this was a success as two youths were arrested on suspicion of a steeling two motorbikes.

"Two further suspects have been identified for theft of a motorbike and will be arrested shortly, all four of these youths have also breached civil injunctions imposed by Leeds City Council."
