Police and Leeds Council want fireworks injunction to ban fireworks being used for these reasons in Leeds

West Yorkshire Police and Leeds City Council are looking to issue a fireworks injunction which will ban a host of fireworks related activities in Leeds.

The injunction applies to anyone in Leeds aged over 10 years old, and will prohibit the use of fireworks for ANY of the below reasons if the injunction is successfully granted.

Anyone who opposes the injunction must contact Leeds Council and be added to the case as a defendant following the applications at Leeds Youth Court and the County Court at Leeds.

What fireworks related activities would be banned?

The injunction prohibits the use of fireworks or other explosive or pyrotechnic materials including, but not restricted, to the following activities :

i. Directing a firework towards any person

ii. Directing a firework towards any animal

iii. Directing a firework towards any vehicle

iv. Directing a firework at any building or structure

v. Using a firework so as to cause nuisance or annoyance to any resident of the Leeds metropolitan district (other than using fireworks on residential premises by the lawful occupier)

vi. Using a firework so that it causes alarm, harassment or distress to any person in a public place within the Leeds metropolitan district (other than an organised firework event)

Prohibiting interfering with emergency workers, who are :

i. A Police Constable

ii. A Police Community Support Officer

iii. A Police Crime Scene Investigator

iv. A firefighter employed by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service

v. A person employed by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service

vi. An NHS employee

vii. An employee of Leeds City Council

At present the application is against “persons unknown” aged 10 upwards – there will be applications in the Leeds Youth Court and the County Court at Leeds
