Pictures show aftermath of Queens Park fire as roundabout destroyed in blaze

Clare Chapman - who lives near Queens Park - spotted the damage on a visit with her children today.

She posted the pictures on a community forum - with residents describing the litter and damage as "absolutely appalling".

Litter was strewn across the park and a fire had been started on the roundabout.

Clare told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I have been this afternoon.

"It was definitely done in the last day because you can still smell the burning.

"The seat of the roundabout has been set on fire.

"It looks like they’ve lit a book and put it on the roundabout and the rest is burnt magazines and books."

Clare said her children were unable to play.

Clare added:"We didn’t stay and play because of the litter everywhere.

"We live next to the park and go quite frequently as there isn’t anywhere for children to play now with restrictions so it’s not nice that they can’t play in the local park now either!"

Other residents expressed their anger on social media.

Alan Mann said: "That is absolutely appalling.

"It is bad enough that someone or some people have spread litter all over the play area, but to set fire to one of the pieces of equipment if totally out of order."
