The order is targeting: noise nuisance and large scale parties in the street; the disposal of rubbish and household waste; anti-social behaviour and criminality; the drinking of alcohol and the use of psychoactive substances in public spaces.

It will be in place for three years.

Commenting on the extra police patrols this weekend, councillors Al Garthwaite, Jonathan Pryor and Neil Walshaw said: "In response to a significant increase in noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour from house parties and other gatherings, there are extra Police and LASBT patrols out this weekend in LS6.

"These teams will be able to confiscate any equipment making unreasonable noise, including TVs and Laptops, issue fines, or even result in a criminal record or sanctions from uni depending on whether any perpetrator is a student or not.

"This is not something done lightly, but has been necessary due to an uptick in some people being inconsiderate of their neighbours all through the night.

"Headingley & Hyde Park is a diverse area with a lot of families and young children living here too."

The trio added: "Please be considerate of your neighbours, and if you are facing any trouble, please call our out-of-hours noise nuisance number 0113 376 0337."
