Murder investigation launched after 61-year-old man found dead in Batley

Police have begun a murder investigation after a man was found dead in Batley last night (Thursday, April 23).

Officers were called to Hyrstlands Road by Yorkshire Ambulance Service shortly after 9pm to reports of a body having been discovered.

A 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police scene is still in place this morning, with a cordon blocking Hyrstlands Road in both directions.

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes of Protective Services (Crime) said: “Enquires remain ongoing into the incident and any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 2208 of Thursday 24 April.”

A 64 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody
