'The motorway is not a playground': Highways England warning as children caught climbing up M62 sign in Leeds

Leeds traffic officers have warned that the 'motorway is not a playground' after children were caught climbing up a sign on the M62 today.

The children were spotted putting their lives in danger climbing on a gantry sign by the busy motorway near Tingley and East Ardsley.

It is the second consecutive day that traffic officers have been called out to reports of children playing by the M62.

The area will now be closely watched by officers throughout the school holidays.

Highways England Yorkshire tweeted: "Second day running for our Leeds traffic officers responding to children climbing on one of our gantry signs on the M62 around Tingley East Ardsley.

"The motorway is not a playground. Our Traffic Officers will be keeping a close eye on the area throughout the school holidays."
