Motorbike seized from driver who rode along footpath and ginnel

A motorbike was seized from a driver who rode along the footpath and down a ginnel rather than on the main road.

Officers from the Leeds District Off Road Bike Team seized the bike from a young person who claimed they "didn't like going round Colton roundabout."

He told officers that it was "safer" to be on the path than the main road.

Officers from the Leeds East team said: "Leeds District Off Road Bike Team seized the below motorbike from a young person who stated they didn't like going round the Colton roundabout, so they decided they would ride along the footpath and down a ginnel instead.

"When asked why they stated it was safer and not because they couldn’t be bothered to follow the one way system.

"It was clearly not safer for the people walking up the ginnel!

"We decided it was safer for him and other people if we took his bike from him."

Over the weekend, the officers conduced an operation to address illegal bike riding in the Halton Moor, Temple Newsam, Killingbeck and Seacroft areas of Leeds.

They seized two bikes for not having insurance and another due to the driver being disqualified.

The team said: "On the 5th and 6th of June Officers from Outer and Inner East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Teams, alongside the Leeds District Off Road Motorcycle Team, conducted an Operation to address the off road bike issues highlighted in the Halton Moor, Temple Newsam, Killingbeck and Seacroft areas of Leeds.

"Officers seized three motorcycles during the Operation, two of them had no insurance and one of the drivers was disqualified.

"East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Leeds District Off Road Motorcycle Team will continue to address the Anti-Social Behaviour and issues raised in relation to Nuisance motorcycles and Quad Bikes within the communities we serve.

"A number of operations will be conducted in the near future."
