Man remains in hospital after Halifax gang attack

Police have confirmed that a man remains in hospital following an attack in Halifax.

Two men were treated in hospital with serious – though not life-threatening injuries – after the incident at the Bull Green in Halifax town centre just after 10.20pm on Friday evening.

Police are now appealing for information about the incident, said by eyewitnesses to have involved a gang of men wearing balaclavas and brandishing weapons.

In a statement issued by West Yorkshire Police, officers confirmed one man was struck by a BMW which mounted the pavement, before being assaulted. They moved to reassure residents that the incident was not terrorism-related.

The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital, police said, while a second man, in his 20s, was stabbed and has now been released.

Their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Simon McKenzie, manager of the Salvation pub, said today: “It was an unprovoked attack which could have happened anywhere. All staff and management are well.

“There was a couple of individuals that were hurt and we hope they get well soon.”
