Daniel Ryan breached a restraining order by posting bicycle tyres through the victim's letter box, chasing after his cat and shouting vile abuse and threats at him.

Leeds Crown Court heard the victim was 'crying and hysterical' in his flat when police were called to deal with one incident at the property on Moorhouse Avenue, Stanley, Wakefield.

The 36-year-old was made the subject of a restraining order in October last year after being convicted of harassing his neighbour and threatening to destroy property.

Ryan breached the order on three occasions in November and December.

The court heard the two men live in the same flats block and the victim has autism.

Another neighbour checked CCTV footage which showed Ryan posting the items through the letter box.

On November 10 Ryan became abusive to the victim when he asked the defendant to stop chasing after his cat.

Ryan was arrested and interviewed after the two incidents were reported to police but he denied any wrongdoing.

On December 14 police were contacted again after Ryan shouted abuse at the victim.

The victim was 'screaming, shrieking and hysterical' when police went to his home.

He told officers he 'struggled to stick to the restraining order' because the victim 'winds him up.'

The victim provided a statement to the court describing how the offending had left him feeling suicidal.

Ishmael Uddin, mitigating, said Ryan pleaded guilty to the offences at an early stage.

Mr Uddin said Ryan had mental health difficulties and struggled with decision making.

Jailing Ryan, Judge Simon Phillips QC said: "This was persistent bullying.

"Your offending has been persistent, deliberate and it has made its mark.

"You have made (the victim's) life a misery, to the extent that on occasions he has contemplated suicide."
