Man dies after police rescue him from River Aire in Leeds city centre

A man has died after being rescued from the River Aire in Leeds city centre.

Police and fire crews were called to a report of a man having gone into the water at about 5.52pm on Sunday, in the River Aire at Bridge End in Leeds.

The man was taken to hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 5.52pm yesterday (20/9) police received a report of a man having gone into the River Aire at Bridge End, in Leeds.

"Officers attended and the man was removed from the water and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and the Coroner’s Office has been informed."
