Man charged over murder in Leeds city centre

Detectives have charged a man with murder after the death of a 22-year-old on Thursday (May 22).

The victim, who has been named as Adam Rider from Leeds, died after being stabbed at the Citispace apartment block on Regent Street.

Officers were called shortly before 3.15am on May 22, to reports of a fight in a hallway at the building.

They found Mr Rider with serious injuries and he was treated at the scene.

He was later pronounced dead at Leeds General Infirmary.

Detective chief inspector Jim Dunkerley, from West Yorkshire Police Protective Services (Crime), said: “The deceased man has been identified as Adam Rider, from Leeds.

“A post mortem examination established the cause of his death as a single stab wound to the abdomen.

“Ashley Twist, 24, of Citispace South, Regent Street, Leeds, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Magistrates.”

Det ch insp Dunkerley added: “Another man, also aged 24, who was arrested in connection with this investigation has been released on bail pending further enquiries.”

Ashley Twist is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court today.

Speaking shortly after the incident on Thursday, Robert Kidd, director at Citispace, said: “The welfare and safety of our tenants remains of paramount importance.

“To reassure our residents we are increasing our security presence and any tenant with queries or concerns should ring our management team on 0113 223 7373. We are supporting the police as they continue their investigations.”
