Man arrested on suspicion of arson after woman suffers serious burns in Armley flat fire

Police have released further information about a suspected arson incident at a flat in Armley on Friday evening.

Two people had to be rescued from a flat above the Let365 property shop on Branch Road by fire crews and witnesses claimed to have seen a woman jump from the first floor.

West Yorkshire Police have now confirmed that the woman was seriously injured after suffering burns and is now in a stable condition in hospital.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately and a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

A police statement read: "At 7.35pm last night, police received a concern for safety report involving a fire at a flat in Branch Road, Armley

"Emergency services attended and a woman was taken to hospital with burn injuries. Her condition is described as stable but serious.

"An investigation has been launched into the incident and police are working with the fire service to establish the cause of the blaze, which caused damage to a first floor flat.

"The log reference is 1552 of 12 February.

"A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in police custody."
