Police investigating a series of sex offences on a West Yorkshire bus route have made an arrest.

Earlier today detectives issued an appeal for information over the offences, carried out on the 268 route between Cleckheaton and Dewsbury.

This evening a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said officers working on the case had arrested a man.

The spokesman added: “The man, aged in his early 30s, was arrested on suspicion of two sexual assaults and two offences of exposure.”

Police have received complaints about four incidents between May and August.

In two of the incidents, a man carried out a lewd act on himself.

During the other two incidents, a man groped female passengers.

Det Con Joe Aspinall, of Dewsbury CID, said earlier today: “These crimes have left a number of women understandably distressed and upset by what has taken place.”

The incidents in which a man carried out a lewd act on himself happened on May 23 and June 19.

A man on the bus route sat next to 18-year-old women before assaulting them on July 30 and August 19.

Anyone who believes they have information about the offences is asked to call Dewsbury CID via West Yorkshire Police’s 101 phone number.

Members of the public can also contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555111.
