The defendant went into the house and tried to drag her outside by her hair.

Robinson continued to punch and slap the woman as she screamed.

He attempted to force her outside but the neighbour managed to stop him from opening the door.

The door handle broke during the struggle so it couldn't be opened from the inside.

Police were called and Robinson was arrested.

When interviewed about the attack he said he could not recall hitting the victim because he was so drunk.

He has five previous convictions for domestic violence against former partners.

Andrew Petterson, mitigating, said Robinson pleaded guilty to the offences at an early stage.

Jailing Robinson, Judge Mushtaq Khokhar said: "It seems that you have a very short fuse.

"As soon as an argument arises you resort to violence to settle the argument.

"The fact that other people were present did not deter you from carrying out a further assault.

"The treatment was just appalling and this is in the context of a background of you being violent towards your partners."
