Police were later called to Well Close Rise, Little London, at 11.30pm on Sunday following a report of a car having been set on fire.

A number of men were seen running off from the scene.

Firefighters were called and put out the fire, before a large police cordon was put in place around the blue Nissan Juke, which is thought to be the car involved in the shooting.

Police will undertake forensic examination and specialist searches on Well Close Rise as part of the ongoing investigation.

No arrests have been made in connection with the attempted murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “The criminal use of firearms on our streets is completely unacceptable and we are continuing to carry out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the targeted shooting of this man, and to identify and arrest those responsible.

“We would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the shooting itself in Charlton Road or who has seen the blue Nissan Juke being abandoned and set alight in Well Close Rise or the males running off from the scene.”
