Leeds rape probe police appeal for witnesses

Police investigating the rape of a woman in Leeds are looking for two people seen in the street at the time of the incident.

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly attacked at a property on Woodhouse Street, Woodhouse, between 2am and 2.35am on Sunday.

Mohammed Sufian Ditta, 27, of Gipton Wood Avenue, Gipton, has been charged with rape and appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

He was remanded in custody until a further hearing at Leeds Crown Court on February 18.

But police are looking for potential witnesses after reports that two people were seen on Woodhouse Street, near the junction with Christopher Road, at the time.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Enquiries so far have been unable to identify these potential witnesses to establish if they have any information that could assist the investigation.”
