The 91-year-old was leaving his home on Sunday to go to his daughter’s house when he was unable to get his key into the hole to lock his front door.

When Kenneth Greaves’ daughter Julie took a closer look, the pair were met with the fouling which had been pushed all the way through the hole.

Julie was concerned that this “disgusting” tactic was being used by someone to identify when her dad had left his Moortown home, meaning it would be left empty.

Julie said: “I cleaned, sprayed and bleached the keyhole numerous times but to have to have done that is ridiculous.

“Although it’s something minor, it’s disgusting and I’m worried it was done by someone to see when my dad goes out.

“If people are going round doing this you just don’t know why and when my dad is 91 and lives alone it’s worrying for me.”

Kenneth has been living on his own in LS17 for two years since Julie’s mum passed away and he is part of Julie’s ‘support bubble’, allowing them to visit eachother’s houses regardless of Covid restrictions.

Julie added: “To be truthful my dad is so laid back, he didn't seem too worried and just let me go on about it but it’s not something I wanted to just leave as he has elderly neighbours and I don’t want them to be at risk either.

“The police were really good and although they said they hadn’t heard of this happening before, they came to check his whole house.

“I actually also put a dried leaf in the keyhole when we left the house so that if someone looked from the top of my dad’s driveway they would think the poo was still in the keyhole.

“It’s just very, very strange.”

A spokesperson from West Yorkshire Police said: “At 1:31pm yesterday (6/12), police received a report that dog poo had been put into the keyhole at an elderly man’s home in Carr Manor Place, Moortown, at some point over the last few days.

“The caller was concerned it might be some sort of marker used by burglars.

“An officer from the local neighbourhood policing team attended and reassured the caller it was not a known burglary tactic and more likely to be anti-social behaviour.

“Neighbours were asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or further incidents, and intelligence has been recorded in relation to the incident.”
