Leeds paedophile didn't tell girlfriend with children he was convicted sex offender

Leeds Crown Court heard Gordon Rodgerson, 39, was "sick of police messing up his relationships" and failed to comply with sex offender register notification requirements..

Rodgerson, of Trentham Row, Hunslet Carr, Leeds, met the woman via a social media website in January when she told him she had children.

Martin Robershaw, prosecuting, said Rodgerson stayed at the woman's home for a minimum of seven days in January and February.

Mr Robertshaw said the woman only became aware of Rodgerson's past after the relationship ended.

He said: "In a statement to police, she said if she knew he was a registered sex offender she would never have got into a relationship with him and put her children at risk."

Mr Robertshaw added: "He said he did not tell her he was a sex offender because he was sick of the police messing up his relationships. That's what he told the police."

Mr Robertshaw said the woman told police she had not left the children alone with Rodgerson.

Rodgerson admitted two charges of failing to comply with notification requirements of a sexual offences prevention order.

He also admitted one breach of a sexual harm prevention order.

At Leeds Crown Court in March 2006, Rodgerson admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child under 16.

After that conviction he was sentenced to a 51 week prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Rodgerson's name was placed on the sex offender register for life and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed.

The order included a clause stating that if he stayed at an address for seven nights or more he must report it to a police station.

The order also banned him from having unsupervised contact with children.

The court heard Rodgerson had appeared in court in 2019 after being convicted of failing to comply with sex offender register notification requirements.

Timothy Jacobs, mitigating, said; "He wants to have a normal family relationship and that is frustrated by the orders."

Mr Jacobs said Rodgerson is in a new relationship with a woman who does not have children.

Jailing Rodgerson for two years, recorder Bryan Cox QC told him: "These were serious breaches, aggravated by the fact that the (woman) was unaware that you were an individual who had previously committed sex offences.

"You told the police you were sick of the police messing up your relationships. It's quite clear you decided to ignore the court order."
