A court heard Rachel Gill struck the victim so hard that the rings on her fingers caused the victim’s bones to shatter.

Nicholas Askins, prosecuting, described how the incident happened outside the Fox and Hounds pub, Horsforth, Leeds, on June 30 last year.

The victim went to the pub with her two children, aged nine and 11, and was in confrontation with a man she had problems with on previous occasions.

Mr Askins said the man argued with the woman before saying to her: “See what happens now.”

He then made a call on his mobile to his sister who arrived at the pub a short time later with Gill. The man’s sister argued with the woman in the beer garden before Gill suddenly attacked her.

Mr Askins said: “She saw the defendant swing a punch at her and felt a blinding pain to her left cheek. One of the children was interviewed by police after the attack and told officers Gill was wearing “massive rings”.

Gill, of Garnet Place, Beeston, Leeds, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Michael Collins, prosecuting, said Gill overreacted after she thought her friend was going to be attacked. Mr Collins said Gill had behaved out of character

Gill was given an 18 month prison sentence, suspended for two years. She was also ordered to do 60 hours unpaid work and take part in a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Recorder Peter Pimm said: “It was a most unpleasant assault with the most unpleasant consequences.

“Whatever the background you clearly laid in wait for your victim.

“You must have known you were wearing heavy rings.”
