Leeds man arrested in Czech Republic after crash which killed biker

A Leeds man was arrested in Czech Republic after a crash which killed a biker from Wakefield.

The crash happened on Coldhill Lane on the outskirts of Sherburn-in-Elmet on Thursday, October 18 2018.

Ian Stewart, 63, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary in a critical condition.

The father-of-two from Wakefield died as a result of his injuries the following day.

A 28-year-old man from the Czech Republic, who was living in Leeds, was arrested at the time.

He was released while under investigation.

A warrant for his arrest was issued in June 2019.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police travelled to Prague on Friday, November 15 to bring him back to the UK under a European arrest warrant.

Following his extradition and arrival in the UK, the man appeared at York Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, November 16.

He was remanded in custody to appear at York Crown Court at a later date.
