Leeds man arrested after drive by shooting led to large armed police response

A man was arrested in Leeds after a drive by shooting which led to a huge armed police response.

The shooting happened at around 2.15pm on Monday, April 27 in Brighouse.

A black Golf drove up Cliffe Road and shot at a silver Qashqai car.

The golf then drove off from the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A large armed police presence attended the scene.

The Qashqai was recovered by officers.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, April 28.

He has since been bailed.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in Leeds on Wednesday 29 on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

He remains in police custody.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Sarah Burton said: “This incident will understandably cause concern in the local community and there are increased high visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance.

“The discharge of any firearm is extremely serious and extensive enquiries are underway to find all of those responsible.

“Thankfully no one has been reported injured in this incident, however the consequences could have been much worse.

“I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with information to contact officers.

“I would also ask for anyone who witnessed either of the vehicles involved driving in the area or the black Golf leaving the area to contact police.”
