Leeds Crown Court closed for 'deep cleaning' over Covid-19 safety concerns

Leeds Crown Court has been closed to allow for deep cleaning to take place over coronavirus safety concerns for staff and members of the public.

Security staff at the building on Oxford Row were refusing entry to the building this morning (Jan 25), stating that the court had been closed as a precaution.

The building it expected to reopen tomorrow.

Cases were listed in ten Crown courtrooms at the building today, including an ongoing murder trial and the sentence of a defendant who has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported last week how Leeds Crown Court is among the most successful courts in the country in coping with the unprecedented backlog of cases currently posing the "greatest threat" to the judicial system.

The Ministry of Justice has been contacted for comment.
