Learner driver has car seized after being caught on M62 in Leeds

A driver was stopped on the M62 in Leeds for having no insurance but it then transpired he was also only a learner driver.

It happened on Sunday, September 6 at about 4pm.

Traffic officers were not convinced when the driver claimed his insurance had been "cancelled then reinstated".

They then found out that he was not a qualified driver anyway and only held a provisional licence.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police (WYP) Road Policing Unit said: "Seized from the M62, Leeds for no insurance.

"Driver tried to say it had been cancelled but then reinstated.

"Found to have Provisional licence anyway."

This is the second time traffic officers have caught a learner driver on the M62.

On Friday, September 4, police stop a car travelling through the Harsthead Moor Services.

They found that the driver only held a provisional licence.

The SEAT Ibiza car was seized and the driver reporter.

A spokesman for WYP said: "Hartshead Moor Services, M62 Westbound - Vehicle stopped travelling through service area.

"Driver is a provisional licence holder and no Insurance covering their use.

"Ironically, the vehicle was displaying ‘P’ plate....Vehicle seized and driver reported."
