It happened at about 4.30pm today in Armley, on the number 16 service.

Witness Neicey Leah, a civil servant, was travelling home after finishing work when she heard the stones hit the bus.

The force of the stones smashed through the glass pane of the bus door, causing shards of glass to shatter on the floor.

It also cracked the glass windows next to the passenger seats.

Neicey, who is classed as a key worker, shared the shocking damage in a Leeds community group.

She said: "Finish a day at work doing a key worker job and obviously wanting to get home after a long hard day and kids think it’s funny to throw stones at the bus and smash the bus up!

"Absolute joke - people need to control their kids."

Neicey confirmed that the driver and passengers were not injured.

Schools are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The government has ordered people, including children, to stay indoors as part of 'lockdown' measures announced on Monday.

On Thursday, the Home Office announced that the police now have the power to arrest and fine people who do not follow the rules.

Officers can also tell them to go home, leave or disperse an area and ensure parents are taking necessary steps to stop their children breaking the law.
