'Keep doors locked': Police warning after spate of daytime burglaries in east Leeds

Police have issued a warning after a spate of daytime 'sneak-in' burglaries in east Leeds.

Leeds East Neighborhood Policing Team saw an increase in daytime burglaries in Seacroft and Whinmoor during the first week of lockdown rules.

The burglars targeted the elderly in particular, stealing small valuables such as mobile phones or handbags.

In a Facebook message, the force said: "With the current COVID-19 lockdown most households will be occupied at all times, however this doesn’t prevent you from becoming a victim.

"Can we ensure we continue to secure our property and follow typical crime prevention advice.

"If you have an older member of the family currently self isolating can we please pass the message on to them in relation to keeping doors locked during the day.

"Times are tough enough for our vulnerable population without the stress and upset of becoming a victim of crime too."
