This shocking dash cam footage was submitted by chance to West Yorkshire Police back in July, when a motorist caught the moment another driver overtook a lorry at speed on the wrong side of the road - and on a bend - on a road in Keighley.

Collision detectives managed to track down the lorry driver, who by chance also had dash cam footage of the dangerous overtake, giving police another angle.

The police force said today (Thursday) that the man, who is from Keighley, has since been found and received a two-year ban as a result of his appalling driving.

He was also ordered to pay £119 in costs and serve 200 hours of community service.

West Yorkshire Police launched their dash cam submissions portal in July to bring more dangerous drivers to justice.

Paul Jeffrey, Prosecutions and Casualty Prevention Manager for the force, said: "Dash cams are becoming increasingly popular with motorists across West Yorkshire and we want to work with the public to improve driver behaviour and address offending.

"If the clip is good enough and we have enough evidence of an offence taking place the options we can take include offering the driver a retraining course, issuing a fixed penalty notice or seeking a prosecution."

West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson added: “Simply the knowledge that road safety offences could now potentially be captured by anyone and easily shared with the police through this portal, will ultimately positively impact upon behaviours on a preventative level."

Any motorists with dash cam footage of dangerous drivers, including those using mobile phones at the wheel or driving without due care or attention, are urged to submit the clips via the portal here.
