Footage of man wanted after officer kicked in head during Leeds lockdown breach

Police have released footage of a man they want to identify - after an attack on an officer during response to a large Leeds gathering in breach of coronavirus lockdown rules.

The West Yorkshire Police officer was punched in the face and kicked to the head and neck while on the ground as he and his colleague responded a land next to Meanwood Community Centre, in Stainbeck Avenue, Meanwood, between 11pm and midnight on Tuesday, July 21.

Bottles and pieces of wood were thrown at the officers during the incident and their police vehicle was damaged, the force said.

Additional officers attended and the crowd was dispersed.

Two men were arrested at the scene and later released under investigation, police confirmed.

The incident is being treated as violent disorder and detectives from Leeds District CID are investigating.
