Five fire engines and police at scene of huge Horsforth fire as house completely gutted

Five fire crews and the police were called to a huge fire in Horsforth on Wednesday (Mar 4).

Shocking photographs show the extent of the damage to the upstairs window of the property on Broadway, a popular route through Horsforth.

More than 20 firefighters tackled the fire, including an aerial pump used above the roof of the home.

The next door neighbours, who did not wish to be named, said their dogs had been saved by a 'heroic' passer-by following the blaze.

One woman said: "I don't know how it started.

"I am so grateful the dogs were saved."

West Yorkshire Fire Service said they were called to the fire at 11.28am.

In a statement, the fire service said: "As of about 1pm, the fire was out and crews were "damping down" the house

"Crews from Rawdon, Cookridge and Leeds are still at the scene.

"The original call was to report smoke coming from the chimneys and windows.

"Police were called to the scene for traffic management purposes only.

"There are no reports of any injuries or anyone being rescued."

One shocked local resident said he couldn't believe what had happened.

The man said: "Five engines turned up all at once.

"It was really scary.

"I hope anyone who was inside is okay."

At 1.15pm, fire crews were dampening down the fire at the property.

The photographs show huge damage to the upstairs window, door and roof.

The house was completely gutted in the fire.
