CRIME figures across the Wakefield district have significantly decreased, according to latest figures.

Police have seen a reduction in the number of burglaries, robberies and car crime.

The figures show that there are 589 fewer victims of crime than there were this time last year.

Wakefield district Police divisional commander, Chief Supt Marc Callaghan, said: “This is good news for our district and is down to the excellent people we have working hard in this division to ensure that we deliver an effective and efficient service, which is focused on the needs of local communities.”

He added: “Neighbourhood policing remains at the forefront of our approach.

“They are in constant touch with our local communities every day identifying the issues that affect them and working with partners and other agencies to resolve them.”
