Driver in stolen BMW crashes into lamppost after police chase

Police arrested a man in Bramley after the driver of a stolen car crashed and tried to run away.

Officers spotted a black BMW in Bramley on Monday that had been stolen in a burglary overnight, but the driver failed to stop.

Specially-trained officers from West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit gave chase before the incident ended in a crash in Raynville Road, shortly before 11am.

The stolen BMW, a police car, a member of the public’s van and a lamppost and bus stop were damaged.

The man tried to run away but police caught him and arrested him.

He was taken to hospital to be checked over but he is not thought to be seriously injured.

Officers will be at the scene until the area has been made safe.
