Driver and passengers from three houses fined after speeding at 90mph on M62 to get takeaway

The driver and passengers of a car which had been driven at more than 90mph on the M62 on the way 'for a takeaway' have been given Covid fines.

West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit said they had followed the car in West Yorkshire as the driver sped at more than 90mph - despite the snow and ice warnings.

The three occupants were all from different households in Greater Manchester, police said.

All three were given Covid fines for the journey - after arguing that they were on the way for a takeaway.

The driver was given a speeding ticket and the car was seized, after police discovered it had not been taxed since September 2020.

WYPRPU said: "M62:Followed at over 90mph despite the weather.

"3 occupants, from 3 different households in GMP on their way to get a take away.

"3 Covid fines issued, one speeding ticket issued and as the car hadn’t been taxed since September last year, it was seized."

Social media users were angered by the incident.

One said: "Lock them up and throw away the key."
