'˜Distressing' robbery at shop run by 90-year-old woman

A 90-year-old shopkeeper was pushed over as thieves demanded cash from her Dewsbury shop.

Police are appealing for information after the “distressing” incident on Wednesday.

Two men entered the shop and demanded money from the woman at her Leeds Road shop, at around 12.40pm.

They went behind the counter and pushed her over; causing her to fall back on a chair. They took some money and fled the shop.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 19 to 21 years-old, of slim to medium build, 5ft 7 inches tall, with blonde hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and beanie hat with his face covered.

The second suspect is also a white male, around 19 to 21 years-old, of slim to medium build, with blonde hair and had his face covered. He was wearing a navy or dark jacket and a hat.

Sergeant Steven Hinchcliffe, from Dewsbury Partnership Working Area, said: “This was an incredibly distressing incident for this elderly lady who has run this shop for many years - thankfully she was uninjured.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who saw these suspects or noticed anything suspicious to contact the police to help with our investigation.
