The Leeds District Off Road Bike Team were riding through Temple Newsam yesterday when the driver of the vehicle was sighted on the grass 'clearly thinking they were Colin McRae', police said.

They were stopped 'after a little catch up' and 'suitably corrected that they were not a world rally champion driver'.

The driver was also told thatt Temple Newsam was not a rally course.

Police seized the car.

Colin McRae was the 1991 and 1992 British Rally Champion and in 1995 became the first Scottish person and the youngest to win the World Rally Championship Drivers' title, a record he still holds.
