One Clarence Dock resident told the Yorkshire Evening Post a number of cars started to pull up and rev their engines on Chadwick Street at around 5.30pm.

The resident claimed hundreds of guests of a wedding party started 'having a massive party in the street' later in the evening.

She claimed they set off fireworks in the road - 'metres away from buildings deemed as highly flammable due to cladding'.

The party proceeded with drums and dancing in the street, the resident said.

Video footage provided to the YEP shows fireworks being let off as a number of people watched on the street.

The resident told the YEP: "It was quite scary for residents.

"We’ve been told our buildings have flammable cladding on them to the point that we have to pay for fire wardens to patrol the buildings 24 hours a day.

"So to have a large group of people set off fireworks only metres away from the buildings, in the middle of the road, was pretty distressing.

"I heard that some residents were left with bits of ash on their balcony!

"It’s just so dangerous.

"It’s also annoying to see such blatant disregard for social distancing measures during the Covid pandemic."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "This relates to a report we received of fireworks being let off in the street and the road being blocked.

"We have attended and established this was related to a wedding party."

There is no suggestion the wedding party was shut down, police said.
