LAST year saw an influx of burger bars swarm to Leeds.

Only time would tell if they would stand the test of time, and with so much competition, it was going to be tough.

Now one of these trendy burger joints is proudly celebrating its first birthday.

Almost Famous on Great George Street is marking the occasion with a new menu. The unashamedly brash burger place isn’t playing it safe either.

Becoming known for its quirky American-style food (some burgers come with an ice cream on top), it’s now pushing the boat out even further.

The new menu includes some of the old favourites like the ‘Johnny Mac’ and the ‘River Phoenix’ and some newbies.

City Buzz was one of the first to try the new menu last night, and loved the ‘Buffalo Beach Club’ burger, and we’ll be returning to try the ‘Good Morning America’ with Cheerios, egg, bacon and a strawberry pop tart (why not?!). The magic waffle fries with syrup, bacon ‘rain’ and popping candy don’t sound the best, but somehow, it works.

With such a competitive dining scene in Leeds, it’s great to see restaurants celebrating these milestones, and keeping other eateries on their toes.
