CCTV appeal over man who racially abused conductor on Leeds train

The conductor, a 25-year-old Asian man from Bradford, was carrying out ticket checks on the service between Leeds and Shipley when he found a man with an invalid ticket.

PC John Clethro, investigating for British Transport Police (BTP), said: “When challenged, the man became abusive and racially abused the conductor.

“A passenger on the service, a 28-year-old lady from Steeton, intervened and asked the man to stop using racist language.

“On alighting the train at Shipley, the man slapped the female passenger in the face then pushed the conductor, who was now standing on the platform, in the back before leaving the station.”

The incident happened at about 6.30pm on February 13.

BTP officers say the man picture may be able to help their enquiried.

PC Clethro added: “This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we are determined to find the person responsible.

“We would encourage anyone who recognises the man in the picture, or knows his whereabouts to get in touch. I would also like to appeal to anyone who was on the train at the time and witnessed the incident to come forward.”
